Merrill Reese and Mike Quick Take a Shot at Their Fake News WIP Colleagues
Not necessarily RADIO WARS, but some warranted friendly fire here:
It’s funny because the fake news hosts at performative radio 94 WIP will spend all week saying that Hurts’ performance didn’t mean anything because the opponent was the Raiders. There’s certainly truth to that, but they’ll be saying it in a disingenuous moving-of-the-goalposts type of way.
This can only be interpreted as Merrill and Mike taking a shot at the doofuses on the airwaves from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. The call is coming from inside the house! There have been assorted idiots on social media calling for Hurts’ benching but this movement is largely another useless turd entered into the Philadelphia sports ecosystem by the low-hanging fruit grabbers at 2400 Market St.
I’ve been told on many occasions that there are two factions at WIP. One faction is Spike Eskin’s guys, who do fake outrage, low-IQ radio for low-IQ listeners. That’s people like Spike, Joe Giglio, and now Jack Fritz, who has been corrupted by Spike and needs rescuing. Let’s be honest with ourselves here. The afternoon show has been unlistenable since Spike took over for Jon Marks, and he’s dragged Jack and Ike Reese down into the mud and afflicted them with Stockholm Syndrome. There was no coming back for WIP afternoons after they spent the day after the Super Bowl victory arguing about Jalen Hurts. It was pitiful even by their low standards.
The other faction is the straightforward sports guys, who just want to talk about the Eagles and the Phillies without doing declarative nonsense radio – IS JALEN HURTS AN ELITE QUARTERBACK??!!!!! This is mostly comprised of the older veteran weekend and night guys, but it’s not necessarily like the two sides are actively at each other’s throats, it’s more of a general schism that exists.
Regardless, I think we all know what side Merrill and Mike are on.
(I’m sure I’ll get a text message saying that it’s all fun and games and “not that serious”)
