Flyers draft pick Porter Martone is co-captaining Canada at the World Juniors and this happened on Friday night:

Canada won the game 7-5. Martone hit an empty netter at the end, which is the precursor to the unsportsmanlike penalty above. Refs must have thought he was showboating or gloating or being an instigator. The comments are all over the place, a lot of people saying this is poor behavior from a captain while others are saying he’ll make the perfect Flyer. There are a lot of references to Claude Giroux being arrested in 2014 for grabbing a cop’s butt outside an Ottawa bar. Just a misunderstanding!

If Martone has a bit of agitator in him, that’s fine. As the rule states, we hate this when someone else does it, but when it’s our guy, it’s acceptable. If Martone shows too much Sean Avery or Brad Marchand, then we’ll sit him down and have a talk. We’ll reel him in. But for now it’s fine.

Martone has 11 goals and 9 assists for Michigan State in 16 games this season. He leads the Spartans with 20 points.

EDIT – he apologized. Is Canada SOFT? –
