Danny Briere Addresses the “Noise” Surrounding Matvei Michkov, Squashes Trade Talk

Danny B spoke to the media on Tuesday night about the Tocchet and Michkov stuff:
Good on Danny for getting out in front of the media and trying to calm this thing down before it went even more off the rails. Whether it assuages any concerns, we will see, but here are the CliffsNotes:
- he thinks the Flyers were a little “ahead of schedule” early in the season when they were in playoff position
- this recent rough patch is also not reflective of what this team is
- “Matvei Michkov is not going anywhere, let’s make that clear, Matvei is going to be here for a long time”
- Michkov, Denver Barkey, Nikita Grebenkin are learning how to be better pros and these bumps in the road are natural for young players
- they knew there was going to be a learning curve for Michkov considering how early he came over
- Tocchet wants Michkov to succeed and Briere says there’s a good relationship between coach and player
- “he’s learning along the way, that’s the part of the process”
- the Sunday comments about missing treatments were not specific to Michkov; it was a general comment about players learn to be pros along the way – “he wasn’t targeting Matvei“
