In what appears to be a growing trend, FanDuel has announced it will no longer accept credit cards as a form of deposit starting March 2.

This decision will impact all FanDuel customers across the country, including Pennsylvania online casinos and New Jersey online casinos.

Users were informed of FanDuel’s decision this week when logging into their accounts.

FanDuel issued a statement to Robert Linnehan of Sports Betting Dime over the decision.

“Over the last few months, FanDuel has been evaluating the payment methods that we offer to customers and made the decision to remove credit cards as an option for our sportsbook, casino, and racing product in the United States. This change was made to improve our deposit experience for our customers.”

FanDuel Joins Other OC Operators in Credit Card Ban

FanDuel is not the first online casino to prohibit credit card use as a form of deposit for its online gambling platforms. The ban will also apply to virtual wallets that contain credit cards. Only debit cards that are in the wallet will be accepted.

DraftKings Casino announced a ban back in August. With DraftKings owning Golden Nugget, they also instituted the ban there as well.

Fanatics Casino is another online operator that no longer accepts credit cards as well.

DraftKings cited that potential cash advance fees and higher interest rates that can impact users was part of the motivation for their decision.

“DraftKings has made the strategic business decision to remove credit cards as a deposit option for sportsbook and casino in the United States. The change is intended to help customers avoid cash advance fees and higher interest rates often associated with this payment method and otherwise improve the deposit experience,” a DraftKings representative said in August.

Along with consumer protection, these operators also are looking to avoid fees of their own. DraftKings received a $450,000 fine last year for accepting over 1,000 sports betting wagers in Massachusetts from credit card payments.

More States Considering Credit Card Ban

FanDuel was already prohibiting the use of credit cards in five states prior to this announcement. That included Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Vermont.

Iowa, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Rhode Island all have statewide bans already, as well as Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Vermont.

Currently, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia are also considering legislation that would prohibit the use of credit cards on gambling platforms.

Pennsylvania still permits the use of credit cards for gambling as a state, but the operators are free to ban them.

More and more states and online casino operators are weighing the idea of eliminating credit cards altogether. This momentum is likely not to die down, and should continue to be more of a trend throughout 2026.
