Sixers Might Be Cooked After Tyrese Maxey Gets the Dreaded “Will be Re-Evaluated” Injury Update
Tyrese Maxey update from the Sixers:
“Following consultation with multiple hand specialists, which included a review of additional imaging, Tyrese Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury to the small finger on his right hand.
Maxey will be reevaluated in approximately three weeks. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”
The Sixers are 34-30 and 8th in the East. Paul George remains suspended. Joel Embiid is out with the oblique strain. VJ Edgecombe returns Tuesday night after the back contusion. Jared McCain is an Oklahoma City player.
They are going to need everything they have to stay afloat in the East. Three weeks takes Maxey to April 1st, with only seven games remaining in the regular season, and that’s just the re-evaluation point, not necessarily a return date. They’re not going to fall below 10th place, because the Bucks are way back, but this thing has the possibility of spiraling completely out of control. The play-in tournament is no bueno because coming out of that gets you a matchup against the Celtics or Pistons.
We just gotta cross our fingers and hope these guys come back and go on a heater, which, uh, doesn’t seem likely. Sucks about Tyrese, too, because he was having his greatest season ever and carrying the load while Embiid and George missed games.
