Shoutout to Cam Payne for a Career-High 32 Points
The Sixers WON on Tuesday night, stopping the woeful Grizzlies 139-129. They’re 35-30 and remain 8th in the East.
Cam Payne went totally off:
Dude was incredible. According to the Sixers’ PR staff, Payne is the first player in franchise history to make eight three pointers without a miss from deep. He’s also the first player in franchise history “to produce at least 30 points and 10 assists in a single game as a reserve.”
Credit where it’s due; he balled out. And Daryl Morey bringing him back from overseas was a good move as well.
I think it’s only fair that if we’re going to shit on the Sixers at every turn for the ridiculous injuries, the Paul George suspension, the Jared McCain trade, etc., then we should give them credit when they play well. It doesn’t mean we have to jump back on the bandwagon, but if a guy steps up and has a big game he should get some love. Cam Payne, Kelly Oubre Jr., Jabari Walker against the Jazz.
It’s the one thing that’s kind of annoying about this team from a macro-level standpoint, that the Joel Embiid and Paul George malaise has cast this negative cloud that obscures other things worth talking about, namely Tyrese Maxey’s big season and VJ Edgecombe looking like a great draft pick. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. If people are feeling like they’re OUT on a team, they’re OUT, and it makes some good stories fall by the wayside.
Look at the “Dream Team” Eagles as a good example. Jason Babin had 18 sacks that season. 18! But nobody seems to remember or care because the Birds went 8-8 and were a big disappointment. It’s also worth noting that Babin was a big jerk.
