This is news to maybe five people:

It’s been whispered everywhere that Jones was “kicked off” the team after 10 games, and there was some scuttlebutt about “fights” at practice, but, for the life of me, I cannot find a reputable outlet that ever confirmed any of that. Everybody has been dancing around his departure for months now. The SJU statement only said that Jones is “no longer a member of the team,” and there wasn’t a lot of digging at the time because it happened two days before Christmas and the Eagles were still playing. The Hawks were mediocre at that point, too, and hadn’t turned the corner under Steve Donahue, so the entire thing was quickly forgotten.

ANYWAY –

Jones transferred in from La Salle last season. Now he transfers out. He was A 10 rookie of the year for the Explorers with 12.5 PPG and a solid player. He averaged 15+ points in 10 St. Joe’s games and hit the buzzer beater to knock off Temple at the Big 5 Classic. The guy can play, it’s just a matter of settling in and avoiding whatever just happened a few months ago.

Here’s a recap of Jones’ lone season on Hawk Hill:
