FLYERS WIN AND THE PLAYOFF DROUGHT IS OVER!
They got it done in the shootout:
Awesome. They battled back from a two-goal, first period deficit against a Carolina team that was resting a handful of their top guys. There was an unlucky bounce on the second Canes goal, but they really buckled down and fought for this one. Big goals from Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras in the second period, then Dan Vladar made a string of big stops in the shootout to seal the victory.
The Flyers will play the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one, which is gonna be rad. We haven’t had meaningful Flyers vs. Yinzers hockey in quite some time. Hopefully we get a repeat of this, only it’s Rick Tocchet threatening to beat the stuffing out of Dan Muse:

There’s a game remaining to played, Tuesday night vs. the Canadiens, but as it stands, the Flyers came back from the Olympic break and won 17 of 26 games. They’ve looked like a completely different team since the OT win against the Rangers on February 26th.
Broken, now, is the no-playoff streak that began in the 2020-2021 season. Officially, it ends at 5 seasons, which was the previous long drought the Flyers went through from 1989 to 1994. Soon, they will play their first postseason game since the Game 7 loss to the Islanders during the COVID 19 pandemic.
