How Flyered Up Would You Have to be to Pay $40 for a Mikael Renberg Autograph in 2026?
I took my kids to the Montgomery Mall on Sunday, by request. The place is on its last legs, but they love it for some reason. I guess they don’t have the perspective we do. They think the mall is supposed to be a beat up playground, some malfunctioning crane games, and an Auntie Anne’s kiosk. They’ll never know the halycon days of Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, and Orange Julius. They’ll never have the thrill of going to Electronics Boutique to buy the hottest new video game that’s taking the country by storm, which is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
As we walked around, we spotted this advertisement for a Mikael Renberg autograph session coming up this Tuesday. It was just sitting on top of a table in one of the lounge areas:
Talk about incredible timing, because the Flyers are up 1-0 on the Penguins in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals and the greater Philadelphia region has not been this Flyered Up in more than a decade. Maybe you watch the Fly Guys smack the Yinzers around on Monday night then take your 7-year-old son to the Montgomery Mall on Tuesday night to get a picture with Mikael Renberg. That’s awesome!
But look at the prices there. $40 for an autograph. $10 for an inscription. $20 for a photo and $10 for a certificate of authenticity. That’s a lot of of money! Especially with all this inflation and Strait of Hormuz craziness that’s going on. Do I fill up my gas tank or get Mike Renberg’s autograph?
Admittedly, I don’t know much about the autograph scene, so I couldn’t tell you what’s a normal price and what’s not. And while Renberg is the man, and a lifelong member of the greatest line in Philadelphia Flyers history, $40 feels steep in 2026. If Renberg is going for $40 now, what’s a Jalen Hurts autograph worth? $100? What about Eric Lindros and John LeClair?
Regardless, the big takeaway here is that Flyers hockey is #1 right now. And the Montgomery Mall ain’t dead yet because vendors like S&B continue to hold the line. We’re so Flyered Up it’s not even funny.
That's nothing! In June Moorestown Mall has "Mike Lieberthal Night". Take that Montgomery!
