Shouldn’t Be Lost on Anyone that Matvei Michkov Assisted the Game-Winning Goal
Matty Ice got the primary on Cam York’s goal:
He’s calm on the puck in the offensive zone, which was rare for the Flyers on Wednesday night. And he did have a turnover or two and some lackluster sequences where he was seemingly behind the play, but offensively he was totally up for it after being healthy scratched in Game 5. Michkov had a chance on a partial breakaway and a wraparound effort that Arturs Silovs had to fight to keep out. He carved out another decent chance a little bit later and finished tied with three other Flyers on 3 SOG each.
On a night when the Flyers’ top guys were producing pretty much nothing (TK, Zegras, etc), Michkov gave them some juice. This is a nice way to perhaps keep his confidence up and get him going in the next round. There’s huge value in the experience he’s getting, along with the rest of the team, most of whom had never seen playoff hockey before this year.
