New Sixers President of Basketball Operations Will “Partner” With Bob Myers, Per Shams

With Daryl Morey getting the boot on Tuesday evening, the Sixers are now on the clock to find a new President of Basketball Operations – and according to Shams Charania, that new hire will “partner” with former Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers, who now works as President of Sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment:
“The Sixers are going to be hiring a new head of basketball operations, someone that will now carry it forward from a leadership perspective – but that person will partner with Bob Myers, who’s the 4-time championship executive and architect of the Golden State Warriors, and now he’s the President of Sports for multiple teams on the portfolios of owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer. Remember, Bob Myers oversaw the hiring of Adam Peters of the Washington Commanders. He also oversaw the hiring of Sunny Mehta of the New Jersey Devils, and now the same for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is considered to be one of the most trusted people and executives, and most sought after among high-level executives and even owners. So Bob Myers – I’m told he’s in Chicago right now meeting with the current 76ers staff that’s still in place – the incumbent staff – and moving forward, he’s going to be a part of leading the process and the search for the next Sixers head executive.”
When you write out the transcript of someone speaking, it really is interesting to see just how much rambling people can do. I’m laughing right now looking at some of the goofy-ass non-sentences I just transcribed from Shams’s meandering spiel:
“Someone that will now carry it forward from a leadership perspective
“He is considered to be one of the most trusted people and executives.”
“So Bob Myers – I’m told he’s in Chicago right now meeting with the current 76ers staff that’s still in place – the incumbent staff – and moving forward.”
The hell are you talking about, Shams? Spit it out! Wrap it up! Tell us what you’re getting at in one sentence! You gotta work on this!
In the meantime, I’ll summarize Shams’s most interesting point here: Bob Myers will “partner” with whoever the new Sixers President of Basketball Operations is. I’m not sure what that means exactly, which I think is on purpose. Seems like the Sixers want to leave this vague –
Will the new President of Basketball Operations work in tandem with Bob Myers, the way the 2018 “collaborative” team of Brett Brown, Ned Cohen, Marc Eversley, and Alex Rucker shared GM duties? Will Bob be in more of an advisory role, where he throws in his two cents every now and then? Will Bob actually have the majority of the power, and have the new hire be mostly ornamental? Will Bob actually do nothing for the Sixers, and instead live out the rest of his days as the President of Sports, whatever the hell that is? Did Shams only report this because of some weird favor to an agent who’s trying to make Bob look sick and powerful? Was Bob Myers even a good GM? Or did he just get absurdly lucky by inheriting a team with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, then falling ass-backwards into getting Kevin Durant because of an all-time flukey salary spike? Which option is the best for the Sixers? Which situation should we be rooting for?
No way to know! We’ll have to wait and see on all counts.
