The Phillies got the win over our old friend Ranger Suarez in Boston on Thursday night, securing the Boston series and inching back to within two games of .500. The Fightins are playing some good baseball, and if the credit can only go to one player, it’s got to be Kyle Schwarber. The man is on an absolute tear:

Our guy is mashing. He blasted two homers on Sunday night against the Rockies, putting him at seven dingers in seven games. He leads all of baseball with 18 home runs. Over his last ten games, he’s posted a .244/.311/.780 slash line with ten RBI and eight runs scored. The power has been nuts. The game-by-game log is extremely pleasant to look at:

I know what you’re thinking. “How can this be happening in May? We all know that Schwarberfest is in June… Kyle always heats up in June… what the hell is going on… Has there been a shift in everything I know to be true…” These are good points and valid questions. Historically, June is by far Schwarbs’ best month (for his career, his slash line in June is .248/.354/.557 with a .911 OPS and 67 HR) while May is actually his second worst month, behind April (career May slash line: .215/.344/.461, .805 OPS, 54 HR – That’s his bad month! Kyle is so good at baseball).

I know what you’re thinking again. We are in sync today: “So that means that even despite this sick run Kyle’s on… he could still be even better in June?” That is correct. That is possible. More than possible, actually – that’s what the almighty numbers suggest.

The Phillies have gone 7-3 in their last ten games. They’re 13-4 since April 25th. Kyle is hitting at a historic rate. And his June could be even better. Maybe he’ll have a 7-game stretch in June where he hits 10 home runs. Or 15. Or 40… With the way he’s swinging the bat right now, I wouldn’t bet against him. Happy early Schwarberfest to all.
