The Red Sox Radio Crew Knew That 8th Inning Schwarbomb Was Coming
By Nick Piccone

The Phillies barely escaped Boston with a series win against the Red Sox, and that was thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s wooden bat. He started off the series with a bomb on Tuesday night, and hit the eventual game-winning bomb Thursday night off of Red Sox reliever Tyler Samaniego, which were the first runs the rookie pitcher’s given up through 15 innings all season. Despite striking out three times, Schwarber made the moment count when it meant the most.
The Red Sox radio crew of Will Flemming and Will Middlebrooks were practically praying for Samaniego to get through Schwarber unscathed.
He did not –
I didn’t include it in the clip, but Flemming called Schwarber “terrifying” before the 1-0 pitch. You could just hear the tension in their voices as the at-bat went on.
Here are the other calls for good measure:
Scott Franzke and Kevin Stocker on 94WIP
Bill Kulick and Angel Castillo’s Spanish call on the Phillies Béisbol Network
Dave O’Brien and Lou Merloni on NESN
