The Knicks took Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals when Cleveland pulled one of the biggest choke jobs you will ever see:

A 44 to 11 run. How does that even happen? Kenny Atkinson stood there like a statue, maybe forgetting that he had timeouts to use. James Harden couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, as usual. He finished 1-8 from three and scored 15 points on 16 shots. The Knicks also attacked him on pretty much every possession, since he’s an orange traffic cone on defense. At the same time, Cleveland’s offense went off the rails completely about halfway through the fourth quarter when New York started picking up Harden and Donovan Mitchell even higher, near the logo. The Cavs stopped attacking the space behind the guards and looked like they completely forgot what was working for them for the first three quarters. Just bring a wing or a big up to the nail, throw them the ball, then either turn and drive or kick it out for a wide-open corner 3.

Unfortunately, we’re in trouble. That was a prime chance for Cleveland to steal home court against a Knicks team that couldn’t hit a shot through 36 minutes. Then Cleveland folded completely and now they’re down 1-0. Does anybody see them winning four of the next six games to get to the finals? I don’t. We have to start preparing for the New York Knicks playing for a title. It’s really bad. The only consolation we have at this point is that they will probably get steamrolled by either the Thunder or by Victor Wembanyama.

Help us, Thunder and Spurs. You’re our only hope.
