“That Could be the Stupidest Question I’ve Heard,” Says Torts to Reporter

The Carolina Hurricanes took a 3-2 Stanley Cup Final series lead with a 4-2 win against Vegas on Thursday night. Carter Hart gave up four goals for the fifth time in a row and Torts was asked if he thought about pulling him:

Is it a stupid question? Don’t think so! Hart was really good in the playoffs before this series, with 2.2 GAA and a .922 save percentage against the Oilers, Ducks, and Avalanche. Now he’s conceded 20 goals in five games.

That being said, the Vegas D has had plenty of lapses (last night for sure), and Carolina is currently the best hockey team on the planet, so it’s probably a little bit of everything contributing to the leakage of goals. Adin Hill wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire this regular season with a 3.04 GAA and .871 save percentage. That’s why Hart is in there in the first place, though Hill won a Stanley Cup a few years ago and has a right to be annoyed with the way Torts answered the question, if he so chooses.

Anyway, if the Canes win one more game, we can say (again) that the Flyers were eliminated by the best team in the league. If that’s any consolation.
