I’m Impressed with the Effortlessly Casual Bat Flip and Pimpage After Gabriel Rincones Jr.’s First Big League Home Run
The Phils defeated the Marlins 7-0 at home on Monday night. They’re now 39-33 and 7.5 games behind the Braves.
Gabriel Rincones Jr., called up after the Adolis Garcia injury, hit his first major league home run:
I have to say I’m impressed with the casual home run pimpage and bat flip. It’s all part of one smooth, continuous, and natural motion. He launches the ball into the right field seats, the bat slides into his right hand, and then he just effortlessly lets go of it and it does a half rotation before landing on the ground. He’s watching the dinger the entire time. It’s a beautiful swing and it looks like a coordinated effort from start to finish, like he’s done this before.
Except – he hasn’t. At least not at this level. That was Rincones Jr.’s first major league hit, and it left the park. He had 18 homers for Lehigh Valley last season but Baseball Reference says the only 2026 homer before this one was in Clearwooder.
Phillies outfielders had six hits last night. Brandon Marsh leads the charge, of course, but Justin Crawford went 3-4 and had his first multi-hit game since May 15th. He’s batting .281 in June. If they can get something out of Rincones Jr. and/or this Derek Hill guy, it will help bigly considering Trea Turner can’t hit anything and Bryce Harper has cooled off.
