Cruz Azul is About to Learn the Hard Way
The Union play a Mexican team called Cruz Azul on Thursday night at Subaru Park. This is part of the “Leagues Cup” tournament that no one seems to care about. It’s a forced competition involving MLS and Liga MX and it’s played entirely in the United States, at MLS venues.
Anyway, these jokers posted a picture with their flag on the Rocky statue:
Obviously, they did not get the memo. It was only a few weeks ago that Ecuador fans put their colors on Rocky and then proceeded to lose 1-0 to Ivory Coast at “Philadelphia Stadium” in the World Cup. Then one of their guys tried to reverse the curse by doing a spiritual offering. He placed one beer and one fish stew at the foot of the statue in hex-breaking fashion.
It didn’t work.
They scuffled to a nil-nil draw against Curacao before beating a Germany team that had already qualified for the knockout rounds. Ecuador snuck into the Round of 32 as a third place team and they were promptly dumped by Mexico. They had an underwhelming tournament.
Updating the list now of Rocky statue drapers who went on to lose:
- 2015 regular season (vs. Giants) β Eagles win
- 2018 NFC Championship Game (vs. Vikings) β Eagles win
- 2018 Super Bowl (vs. Patriots) β Eagles win
- 2023 NFC Championship Game (vs. 49ers) β Eagles win
- 2025 NFC Championship Game (vs. Commanders) β Eagles win
- 2026 World Cup – Ivory Coast defeats Ecuador
It doesn’t really matter if Cruz Azul actually put the scarf on Rocky or if this is a photoshop/AI thing. It counts just the same.
Cruz Azul are idiots.
Union will win this game by multiple Doops.
