Meantime in Philadelphia, an Ecuador fan has offered penance after La Tricolor lost their World Cup opener 1-0 via Rocky Statue curse:

With a combination of artificial intelligence and my shitty Spanish, a transcription:

“I did it for Ecuador and I did this for the national team, and my apologies to Philadelphia because they didn’t know what they were doing. There were people, certain people who climbed up the Rocky Statue and put the jersey on Rocky. That is… how can I put it? Bad luck for the team whose jersey is placed on the statue. There’s a saying that if you put your jersey on that statue, your team is going to lose. And what happened? With two minutes left they scored on my beautiful Ecuador and we lost. The next day I told myself, I have to do something. On Monday I got up and ordered an encebollado and an Ecuadorian beer, and I went to give it as an offering to Rocky so he forgives us for everything, so we can be cleansed of the curse.”

This is a very nice gesture, but not necessary. The Ecuadorians did not adorn Rocky in a demeaning or negative way. They were not filthy, knuckle-dragging Niners fans disrespecting the Eagles. They probably just didn’t know about the curse, which is fine.

But if the Ecuadorians are serious about breaking the hex, what they should do is bring a couple of cervezas and some encebollado to the next tailgate. It looks pretty good. It’s a fish stew with tuna, yuca, and pickled onions. Que bien! –
