Great News: Pretty Sure Matvei Michkov Recently Saw the Michael Jackson Movie in the Same Theater He Saw Minions In

Some great news just came across my desk: According to his latest Instagram post, I’m pretty sure Matvei Michkov saw the Michael Jackson biopic Michael in theaters at some point this summer, possibly at the same place he saw the new Minions movie:

Last week I wrote about how heartened I was to see Michkov was seeing the new Minions movie, positing that there were many lessons in the film that could be helpful to him heading into next season, including how to be a good teammate, the importance of having a positive attitude, and the freedom that comes with putting your ego aside. And it looks like the lesson-learning didn’t stop there. Like the new Minions movie, I believe Michael contains many valuable lessons that Michkov can take with him and apply on the ice, including:
Not everyone will understand you, and that’s okay: Micahel Jackson had a dream, and at first, many people just didn’t get it. But Michael danced anyway. Similarly, it’s okay that Michkov doesn’t speak perfect English. That’s not what matters. Michael never quit, and neither will Michkov.
Greatness doesn’t happen by accident: Michael wasn’t born in a sequin jacket and soft-looking dancing shoes in front of hundreds of adoring fans. He went out and became a dancing force first, then the jackets, shoes, and fans came later.
Discipline is key: You never saw MJ huffing and puffing after just a few spins and little rhythmic kicks. To Michael Jackson, work was his life, and that attitude kept him in reasonably good shape.
It always seems impossible until you do it: If you described moonwalking to someone in 1971, they would have called 911 and had you committed. Fast forward to today, and moonwalking is a widely accepted way of walking while dancing.
I’m confident Michkov left the theater thinking about all of these lessons, and possibly dozens more. In fact, he had his phone out during the screening. He must have. That’s how he took the very photo of Michael that he posted to Instagram. Knowing that the phone was already out, I wouldn’t be surprised if he opened the Notes app, too, and jotted down inspirational tidbits during the movie so he wouldn’t forget them, already excitedly thinking about the parallels to his own journey to greatness.
I think it’s safe to say Michkov is primed for a huge season. He watched the new Minions and then I’m pretty sure he watched Michael. Hope he’s been enjoying the movies. Hope he keeps going to see more.
