RADIO WARS: Adam Smith Joining 97.5 the Fanatic
Dunno if this counts as RADIO WARS, but I think more people click on it if we write RADIO WARS. Smitty of Barstool fame is joining the Fanatic:
Smitty says he’s in the suburbs and living the dad life and ready to get “back into the weeds” with Philly sports.
Marks asked him to provide the CliffsNotes for unfamiliar listeners:
“I grew up in the Philly suburbs, Malvern Pennsylvania. Played a little D3 football at Susquehanna University… I was known as one of the best backup tight ends in division 3 football history. I think we won 12 games in four years. Sacrificed an ACL, had a separated shoulder… Barstool was basically a sports blog for the longest time and I got started in 2011 through standup comedy, hitting up the clubs around Philly. Started to get into writing. I got lucky and got in early and grew with the pirate ship there. Just happy to be a part of that and happy to be here.”
For the morning show, he’s gonna come in the studio once a week on Wednesday mornings for about an hour. Otherwise, he says he’ll be a “utility player” to start at the Fanatic, which I guess means bouncing around to different shows and doing some different things. We’ll see. My gut instinct is that bringing in new people and adding new voices is probably a good thing for either station.
Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team's 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University. email - k.kinkead@sportradar.com
