The Temple and Toledo Line is Moving, and Not in the Owls’ Favor

I was checking out the odds on PA sports betting apps and New Jersey sports betting apps, and the books aren’t feeling the Temple Owls this week, but they like the Delaware Blue Hens at home:

  • Temple: +6 at Toledo (over/under 49.5)
  • Delaware: -5.5 vs. Coastal Carolina (over/under 57.5)
  • Penn State: -40.5 vs. Buffalo (over/under 49.5)

The Temple line opened around 4 points and moved to 6 points when early money came in on Toledo. What do they know about the Rockets that they aren’t telling us? This looks like a typical MAC team on paper, currently sitting at 1-1. They lost 30-20 at Michigan State to open the season then blew out Central Connecticut 63-10 at home last week. Toledo actually led 20-19 in East Lansing at one point, before the Spartans got the job done with 43:16 of possession and a barrage of field goals. Toledo has a pretty good passing game, it would appear, and some explosive capability there, but Michigan State has fallen off hard in recent years.

Looking at Temple on the road last season, they thumped UMass and Charlotte, lost by multiple scores to Georgia Tech and North Texas, and then split a pair of one-point games vs. Army and Tulsa. They were big dogs in the games they were blown out in when away from South Philly. The Owls were 7-5 ATS in K.C. Keeler’s first year and 4-2 ATS on the road. They backdoor covered against Penn State last week and covered the 14.5 against Rhode Island in Week 1.

With a moving line, there’s value on the Owls here. You could push it to +7 and give yourself a full touchdown. If you want to use a Kalshi promo code, you can trade on Toledo to win by more than 6.5 points – NO, at 54%.

Moving the line to 7.5 gets you to 60%.

As for the Blue Hens, they battled Vandy in Nashville last weekend. Coastal Carolina’s quarterback is a mobile guy who can do some damage. Don’t overlook Deuce Bailey. They battled WVU to a 31-24 loss in Week 1 and hammered Fordham 45-7 at home in Week 2. I might stay away from the Delaware/Coastal spread and play the Hens moneyline straight up at -198.

Penn State is a huge home favorite against Buffalo, who beat Albany 21-17 at home and lost 33-20 to FIU on the road. If Penn State covers, it will be because their defense pitches a near-shutout. I could honestly see a 45-0 or 48-7 type of game here, but 40.5 is a lot of points to cover.

Good luck this weekend.
