Zach Ertz 2.0 Felt Like an Eagles Inevitability

If you missed it last night because you were under a rock, hiking deep in the woods, or living in La La Land, the Eagles are bringing back Zach Ertz in place of the injured Dallas Goedert, who is expected to be out for a couple of weeks:
It sure would be nice if 2nd round draft pick Eli Stowers was ready to go, but he’s not. Howie Roseman’s top two picks aren’t doing much of anything right now, though Makai Lemon did make a tough 3rd down catch on Sunday afternoon to move the sticks and keep a scoring drive alive.
With Ertz in the fold, the Birds’ tight end depth chart includes Goedert (OUT), Stowers (OUT), Grant Calcaterra (IR), Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins. Josiah Deguara is on the practice squad. They’ll have a short time to get Ertz in the fold, but they do get the extra day since this weekend’s game is on Monday Night Football.
Zach is an Eagles legend and 2nd in franchise history with 579 receptions. He’s 10 receptions behind Harold Carmichael, who has the Birds’ record with 589 catches. He played 13 games for the Commies last season, catching 50 of his 72 targets, and while he’s 35 years old and coming off a knee injury, he says he’s good to go.
This felt inevitable going all the way back to training camp, because Stowers was slow to adapt and the Eagles didn’t have a robust tight end group to begin with. It took a Goedert injury to push the Ertz signing over the finish line, from rumor to actuality, and we welcome Zach back to Philly.
