Mekhi Becton Sounds Ready to Return to the Eagles as Soon as Howie Roseman Makes the Call

A fan asked Mekhi Becton when he’s coming back home to Philly, and the currently unsigned guard who won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2025 had this to say:
He either said “They don’t call me” or “Tell them call me.” I can’t tell which it is for sure, but either way, the sentiment is the same: Becton sounds open to a reunion with the Birds, and is just waiting for Howie Roseman to reach out. And considering how much the Eagles have been struggling to run the ball and the injuries on the O-line, calling Becton may be the move.
To refresh your memory, Becton signed a one-year prove-it deal with the Birds in 2024 after a largely terrible, bust-ish tenure with the Jets, who drafted him 11th overall in 2020. He made the most of his time with the Eagles, making the switch from left tackle in New York to right guard in Philly and playing a critical role in their Super Bowl run, which earned him a 2-year, $20 million contract from the Chargers. It didn’t go well for him there, and Becton was cut after one season.
It’s worth underscoring how truly awful he was in LA. In 2025-2026, Pro Football Focus ranked him 79th out of 81 qualified guards in the NFL with an overall grade of 35.7. He posted a league-last 34.3 run-blocking grade, while earning a 45.1 pass-blocking grade in protection of quarterback Justin Herbert. Very bad stuff.
But there’s reason to think he could help out this current Eagles offensive line. Becton was sick here, especially in the run game, where he played between Cam Jurgens and Lane Johnson. According to Sportradar, on designed runs into the A gap (between Jurgens and Becton), the Eagles averaged 4.53 yards per carry in 2024-2025. On runs in the B gap (between Becton and Johnson), they averaged 4.77 yards per carry:
So far this season, the Eagles run game has been rough. Through two weeks, the Eagles are averaging 2.45 yards per carry on designed runs through the A gap (27 yards on 11 attempts) and 2.44 yards per carry through the B gap (39 yards on 16 attempts). They rank 22nd in overall designed rushing yards (167), and rank 25th in yards per designed rush (3.27).
I’m not saying Becton would come in and fix all this stuff, of course. He played in a different scheme in 2024. But I am saying with Landon Dickerson hurt and the O-line looking this rough so far, it’s worth taking a flyer on a guy who’s excelled here before in the exact areas where the team is struggling. They’ll give Willie Lampkin a look before making this phone call. He’s the guy that a number of fans want to see in there, but Becton’s still out there.
