Watched this at least 15 times and still not sure how Alec Bohm hit it out of the ballpark. It was a 99 mph fastball coming high and inside and he somehow got his hands around:

Matt Vasgersian had no idea that was going out. Not sure I did either! Bohm mentioned after the game he was trying to pull it with that swing, which is even better.

That was Bohm’s first opposite-field home run since the season opener way back in March. In fact, he only had 16 career opposite-field home runs in 3,578 major league plate appearances, and 11 of them were at Citizens Bank Park. Wednesday afternoon was only the 6th time ever that he’s hit an oppo taco and it happened to save the Phillies’ season.

Not just that, but the 3-2-3 double play he turned earlier kept the Phils in it:

That’s a tough play man. He’s gotta field it cleanly, throw home, and then slide back over to 1st base. Not enough time for someone else to slide over. He has to catch the return throw without getting his arm taken off by the runner.

Huge moment in the game and he came up huge.

Bohm actually finished the regular season with 88 runs batted in, which was second behind Kyle Schwarber. He was moved from 3rd to 1st base and went through the crazy legal thing with his parents. But since the Phillies played the Twins in the Iowa Field of Dreams Game on August 13th, Bohm has slashed .304/.385/.449 (.834 OPS) with 2 home runs, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 19 runs scored, and 25 RBIs over those 38 games.

He’s 3 for 8 in this Atlanta series with two RBIs and was 4-12 in the 2025 Dodgers series with six walks and just one strikeout.

Who knows if it’s gonna be good enough to get himself a new Phillies deal, but he’s playing his best baseball of the season at the right time. Game 3 tonight.
