Eagles Trading Cam Jurgens, and the Timing is Funny Considering That Mitchell Schwartz Tweet
According to Schefty:
That’s incredible return. You’re trading Jurgens and a 7th to Baltimore for a 5th and a 2nd? That’s more than what they used to draft him back in 2022! You have to pull the trigger on an offer like that if it comes your way. Now the Willie Lampkin era begins in Philadelphia.
Funny enough, I was in the middle of litigating this tweet when the news broke. It’s former NFL player Mitchell Schwartz going after Eagles film guy / poser Thomas Petersen:
Emmanuel Acho responded to this, writing, “Bro did the same thing about eagles linebackers last week.”
Fran Duffy quoted it with some emojis:
Now, I’m not sure about you, but in a dispute where Schwartz, Duffy, and Acho are on one side, and Petersen is on the other, I’m probably siding with the former. That’s because Schwartz played nine professional seasons for the Browns and Chiefs. Fran worked for the Eagles, which, maybe that creates some inherent bias, maybe not. Only he can tell you that. But he knows foorball. And Acho, when he’s not saying dumb shit for engagement, will post interesting video clips that lean on his lived experienced with the Eagles, Giants, Browns, and Texas Longhorns.
Petersen, meantime, is that Danish YouTuber who has been caught ripping people off. He stole a graphic from PHLY’s Deniz Selman last year and used to be one of those guys posting training camp observations even though he wasn’t physically present. He wasn’t even on the continent. He’d just read beat writer tweets and aggregate them as his own. The guy is, and always will be, a jabroni.
Now, as for the video itself, I didn’t get the sense that “only half of these are bad plays.” I see the pancake on the backside cutoff. I also see a play where he moves the tackle way off his line, and Jalen Hurts decides to hold the ball instead and throw it away. There are a couple of D-line stunts that he does an okay job with. It’s not incredible film at all, but at least 5-6 of those sequences I looked at felt like typical line play.
Regardless, Jurgens is no longer an Eagle, so that’s that. Note that he was deputizing at left guard because of the Landon Dickerson injury. He played right guard in 2023. And he was excellent in 2024, part of the best O line in Birds history. Now he’s gone and so is Lane Johnson. It’s crazy how quickly things can change.
