With Jalen Hurts sidelined with a blood clot, the Eagles bolstered their quarterback depth on Friday by signing Joe Milton off the Cowboys’ practice squad:

Milton spent two years in Dallas, where he made four regular-season appearances off the bench. Across those games, he completed 15 of 24 passes (62.5%) for 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while adding five carries for 50 rushing yards. He played in six preseason games as a Cowboy, going 65 of 108 overall for 775 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions, plus 75 yards and two scores on the ground.

Before that he was with the Patriots, who drafted Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. His big moment in New England came in Week 18 of his rookie year against the Bills: Milton went 22-of-29 passing for 241 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, plus 10 rushes for 16 yards and 1 rushing TD. He balled out in this game:

Despite being a career backup/practice player so far, Milton’s knack for the long ball and strong arm have made him a buzzier name than you’d expect. His highlights are pretty sick:

And he throws so hard/far, it’s insane:

Tanner McKee will start for the Eagles in Jalen’s absence, with rookie Cole Payton slotted in at QB2. But maybe Milton will make a run at that backup spot. Or maybe the Tanner experiment won’t work out and Milton will be starting games for the Birds. Who knows. Maybe that’d be good. I wouldn’t mind seeing this sort of thing out there:
