The Gray Flyers Jerseys are Kind of Boring, But at Least it’s Something New and Different
This was leaked a while back, but now official:
Looks like a darker version of the Millennial Gray color that was really popular back in 2015. You could hang 30 of these Flyers jerseys from the side of a Fishtown house that’s just losing it’s 10-year tax abatement and they would blend in seamlessly.
Initial thought – why gray? Gray is not a Flyers color. This team traditionally wears orange, black, and white. They don’t wear anything else. Then you think about how tiring Flyers “tradition” is. The Flyers country club of former players running the show and whatnot. Even if Danny Briere and Keith Jones were lighting the world on fire, their presence at the top of the organization would still invoke feelings of non-inspiration from the anti-traditionalists, who are looking for something new and different.
This probably counts. Gray is new and different. It’s not very exciting, but at least it’s a departure. Maybe that moves the needle for the portion of people who have “same old Flyers” lethargy.
For what it’s worth, every team in the city wears a uniform that doesn’t involve their primary colors. The Phillies have the blue City Connect jerseys now, and while plenty of fans hate those jerseys, I see a TON of kids wearing those. The youths of this region really seem to like them. The Eagles and Sixers occasionally use the all-black uniforms as well, and while black has been part of the color palette as a complementary piece, it’s not typically a main jersey color. Then you go down to Chester and the Union have something different every year. They’ve done light blue and yellow jerseys, Bethlehem Steel throwback blacks, off white/cream, and the original khakis from 2010 through 2012.
We’re gonna do Posidelphia on this. It’s something new. It’s something different. That has to county for something.
