The Sixers are 8-1. It should go without saying that we did not see this coming. I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Even the most optimistic Sixers fan had to have expected some growing pains, especially early on. It takes time to jell. It takes time to build chemistry. It takes time to win. At least I thought it did. Apparently the Sixers are the exception to all that, which is pretty incredible. What a crazy thing.

What’s even crazier, though, is just how good the vibes are with this team. I truly can’t believe it. It feels like every game now, there are two or three moments that make me proudly smile and laugh a little and nod and mutter, “Look at these guys. They’re having fun,” alone at my TV. I wrote about it after the Bulls win, and now I’m here to write about it after the Pistons win. There’s just so much good stuff. It requires a blog:

Have we ever seen LeBron joke around like this? I don’t think we have. For a good chunk of his career, I felt like any time LeBron tried to do something funny or interesting, it would come off as forced and unnatural and lame. But that’s not what I’m getting in this clip. Him giving Joel shit here feels like a very normal, funny thing to do to your buddy. I enjoyed it very much.

The reveal in this one was good. Didn’t expect to see this many guys prepared to do the Joel hip thrust. Good to see everyone in the mix.

This team has only played 9 games together. How do they already seem like they’ve been running pickup at the Cherry Hill JCC every Sunday morning for the last 20 years? How are they already laughing this much and goofing around and keeping the energy so fun? I don’t understand it. But I’m pumped keep watching it.

Kinkead: You know things are healthy when guys are busting each other’s chops, calling each other “ass” and trolling in the locker room. The Sixers are basically living out a group chat in person.
