Throwback Thursday: The Terrible Rocky Intro for Eagles-Buccaneers in 2003

Few things about this game– the opener at the Linc and rematch of the NFC Championship earlier that year:
- The Eagles got absolutely abused that game and lost 17-0, started the season 0-2, and yet somehow went back to the NFC Championship Game… and lost to the Panthers.
- I’m so glad we’ve moved on (mostly) from the Rocky-Stallone thing. Nothing was more indicative of this city being held back by a loser’s mentality than championing an old movie character famous for being an also-ran.
- Nothing says Philly like “he has come in from Los Angeles.”
- Only in Philadelphia would a hype video to open a new stadium against the Super Bowl champs feature a soul-crushing interception from the season before.
- How much work has Stallone had done? He looks nothing like he did in this video:
God, my disdain for the Rocky trope is flaring up again. Gonna need some ointment. I break out in hives every time I see that “something I want you to do for me-win” clip before the Flyers inevitably fail to score the tying goal against a better, faster, deeper opponent. Fuck. Flashbacks to the Devils and their trap. Goddamn you, Rocky. Goddamn you.
