The Eagles confirmed Ed Werder’s report that they interviewed Duce Staley for the head coaching position. They even sent out a link to this fancy marketing fare honoring Duce’s accomplishments with the Eagles.

Several Eagles beats noted Jeffrey Lurie’s fondness for Staley, who’s been with the organization in a coaching capacity since 2010, when he started as an intern, making him the longest tenured coach on the team.

Analysis: I can’t imagine Staley, without even coordinator experience, would be a serious candidate for the position. Rather, and unfortunately for Duce, his interview may have just been so the Eagles could fulfill their Rooney Rule obligation to interview a minority head coaching candidate.

Tim McManus reports that Pat Shurmur, interim head coach on Sunday, has not been interviewed yet.
