The Sixers, Watching a Lot of The West Wing, Hire a Chief of Staff

Kyle has said before how much he loves it when Sixers stories or scoops are broken to business publications rather than the sports outlets. This isn’t one of those scoops, but it does tie in to the Sixers’ apparent desire to be structured like a Wall Street business (or even more dryly, a government).
According to CSN (via Woj), “The Sixers have created a new position and promoted Brandon Williams to chief of staff.” A Chief. Of. Staff. Following in the governmental steps of Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheyney, Williams will reportedly “report to Sixers GM [Ed. note: And President] Sam Hinkie, and he will oversee player development, agent relations and recruiting.” Williams, with that “agent relations” tag, looks to partly be another buffer between agents and Hinkie, along with Chairman of Basketball Jerry Colangelo.
Additionally, there’s still no real, concrete structure as to where Colangelo fits, but, interestingly, he has to sign off on all basketball-related moves. Meanwhile, Williams sits below the VP of Basketball Operations Sachin Gupta and VP of Basketball Strategy Ben Falk on the organizational chart (which still does not include Mike D’Antoni). And Colangelo is above them all under his own header.
If Scott O’Neil and Sam Hinkie want to structure their organization like a Wall Street firm or a government, they’re doing a damn good job since no one seems to know who does what. Or, you know, you could just be the Eagles and not actually have anyone in any of these positions.
