Joel Embiid Won’t Join the Team for the Rest of This Road Trip

There’s throwing caution to the wind and then there’s sitting caution in a chair, wrapping it in bubble wrap, and hermetically sealing it in a safe room surrounded by armed guards.
According to Keith Pompey, the Sixers do not plan on playing Joel Embiid on the last two games of this road trip, against Miami and Detroit. Brett Brown mentioned seeing him in Miami and then walked that back immediately:
In my mind, I’m really trying to take the team that is in that locker room and move them along. and treat Joel like he will be a really great addition if we do see him in Miami.
But it’s not something that I’m completely planning on it at all.
“I’d love to have Joel in Miami…uh…but I don’t think he’ll be there and he might not even know where Miami is and we probably won’t give him our flight information.”
After these two road games, the Sixers have five more matchups before the All-Star Break: Home against the Spurs, at Orlando, home against the Heat, at Charlotte and at Boston. As we mentioned before, Embiid’s knee contusion takes a couple of weeks to heal, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the next time you see Embiid on the court is in the Rising Stars challenge, which I’m sure will enrage Jack McCaffery.
