Report: Flyers and Oilers in “Holding Pattern” on Talbot Talks

Darren Dreger is more or less the NHL’s Adam Schefter.

He mentioned last night that the Flyers and Oilers were talking about a Cam Talbot trade and offered this update a short time ago:

Oilers and Flyers in a holding pattern on Cam Talbot trade. As mentioned on Insider Trading last night, Anthony Stolarz likely in the return if they close the deal. RFA goalie end of the year.

Couple things here:

• Stoli is actually a group 6 unrestricted free agent right now. He has a chance to reach RFA status, but he needs 11 games of 30+ minutes to reach that mark. The Flyers only have 25 games remaining, so I don’t see a 14/11 Hart-Stoli split happening.

Explanation on that via Cap Friendly:

The first year we posted our Group 6 list we got burnt because we overlooked the 30 min requirement. Since then, we literally go back and look at every game sheet for goalies on the G6 list in order to weed out games under 30 min. Stolarz has 19 gms, but only 17 of 30 min or more

So he’s likely going to remain an unrestricted free agent.

Also, after the jump:

• Stolarz is 25 years old and probably doesn’t want to be Carter Hart’s backup moving forward anyway.
• Talbot works out with Hart in the off season and has a good relationship with him.
• The Flyers will need a veteran to pair with Hart, and 33 year old Brian Elliott probably isn’t that guy moving forward.

And there’s this:

That’s pretty much it. Rolling with Hart and Stolarz sounds great in theory, but I don’t know if it’s feasible.
