Philadelphia Eagles Reportedly Signing AAF Quarterback

The collapse of the Alliance of American Football was kind of sad, if we’re being honest.

Jokes aside, you’ve got a bunch of players with nowhere to go, a lot of former NFL guys who were trying to fight their way back to the top.

Some of those players were snagged by NFL teams, like ex-Eagle De’Vante Bausby, who signed with the Broncos. The Birds are reportedly getting in on the AAF fire sale action as well:

Perez was a 2017 national champion at division two Texas A&M-Commerce. He completed 421 of 596 pass attempts that year (70.6%), throwing for 5,001 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while winning the Harlon Hill trophy, awarded to America’s most valuable D2 player.

He was not drafted in 2018, but signed with the Rams, appeared in the preseason, wound up on the practice squad, and was later waived. Perez played seven AAF games with the Birmingham Iron, completing 53% of his passes for 5 touchdowns and 6 picks.

Obviously the Birds need depth behind Carson Wentz and Nate Sudfeld this season. Perhaps the success they had selecting Wentz from a non-FBS program might be replicated with this move, or perhaps not.
