DraftKings credit card ban

Effective now, DraftKings will no longer be accepting credit cards as a way for users to fund their gambling accounts.

The online casino and sports betting operator communicated this move with customers last week via email. DraftKings stated the new policy went into effect on Monday, Aug. 25.

Pennsylvania online casino players will have one less funding option for DraftKings Casino PA moving forward.

DraftKings Cites “Consumer Protection” for Decision

DraftKings has become the latest online gambling operator to prohibit credit card deposits. It joins the likes of Fanatics Betting and Gaming, Betr, and Sporttrade.

In the email to customers, DraftKings noted any stored credit cards will be disabled from making deposits. Any future attempts to add a credit card for depositing will also be disabled.

In a statement to multiple media outlets, a DraftKings representative stated:

“DraftKings has made the strategic business decision to remove credit cards as a deposit option for sportsbook and casino in the United States. The change is intended to help customers avoid cash advance fees and higher interest rates often associated with this payment method and otherwise improve the deposit experience.”

DraftKings also noted that most customers don’t utilize credit cards for making deposits.

Credit card use for online gambling can subject users to cash advance fees. If those fees aren’t paid, it can lead to higher interest rates for the user.

DraftKings Fined $450,000 for Credit Card Wagers

This move comes following a recent fine that DraftKings received from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC).

The MGC fined DraftKings $450,000 for improperly accepting over 1,000 sports betting wagers that were funded through credit cards.

Along with the fines, DraftKings was required to refund $83,667.92 in credit card wagers to 218 customers. The fines were levied on July 25.

These illegal wagers took place from March 10, 2023-Feb. 14, 2024. The MGC’s fine was the largest it had given to a licensed online operator since online sports betting began in Massachusetts in 2023.

DraftKings stated the policy change was unrelated to this fine.

  • Bank/Wire Transfer
