Remember Levi from Overbrook?

Sure you do. He’s the famous 94 WIP caller who passed away a few years ago at age 56. Real name Darren Levi Cephas, he suffered from kidney and heart disease and died from an infection.

There were a lot of nice things said and written about Levi back then, and now WIP has named an awards series after him. Dubbed “The Levis,” WIP wants us to vote on a variety of sports topics spanning two decades, from 2000 to 2020.

Here are the categories at the WIP website:

  • Overall Philadelphia sports franchise of the 2000’s
  • Team of the 2000’s (single season)
  • Athlete of the 2000’s
  • Coach/Manager of the 2000’s
  • Executive of the 2000’s
  • Moment of the 2000’s
  • Blunder of the 2000’s (in-game moment)
  • Phillies player of the 2000’s
  • Eagles player of the 2000’s
  • 76ers player of the 2000’s
  • Flyers player of the 2000’s
  • Role player of the 2000’s (non-starter)
  • Best game of the 2000’s
  • Best trade of the 2000’s
  • Draft steal of the 2000’s

Good list. I voted for Smarty Jones as best athlete. For best Sixer I wrote in Reggie Evans and biggest blunder was the guy who climbed on top of the car during the Phillies celebration and then fell on his head.

RIP Levi. Nice gesture here by WIP.
