Brian Baldinger Loves Jalen Hurts’ Poise and the Eagles’ Trench Warfare in Latest Breakdown Series

We enjoy Baldy’s breakdowns rain or shine, win or loss. You learn something new every week.
This time around, we’re talking about an Eagles win, with a new quarterback under center and both lines looking invigorated in week 14. Maybe it was the Carson Wentz benching that rejuvenated them and inspired them to knock New Orleans Saints on their rear ends.

“poised, calm under pressure, all day long”
Poise is a great word. Hurts didn’t look overwhelmed at all. He never looked that way in college, either, and we’re talking about a guy who played 56 games at Alabama and Oklahoma, which included big-time bowls and conference title games. He took what was given to him and played within himself, didn’t try to do too much.

“he’s looking for more Saints, more meat, more somebody to push”
Jordan Mailata is incredibly fun to watch. I’m fascinated by how he’s able to knock guys backwards, sideways, or to the ground entirely based on contact that doesn’t even look significant. Sometimes it looks like he barely gets his hands on these defenders and they are totally clobbered. He’s just a massive human being and legitimate people mover.

“Jalen Hurts earned that one”
It was great to see the rookie take that shot and just throw the 1v1 toss to a veteran receiver. New Orleans was rushing six while manned up on the outside, and Hurts recognized it at the line of scrimmage.
This was a Nick Foles back shoulder throw. Carson Wentz made a few of these in 2017 but we haven’t seen a ton of it in recent years. Even without guys bearing down on him, he’d throw these passes inside and they would be knocked down, fall short, or picked off.

“Hargrave played his best game as a Philadelphia Eagle”
Yep. Two sacks, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits. Earning that money. Entire defense played well, and Jim Schwartz called a nice game.

“great job up front”
Amen.
Another long breakdown by Baldy. He was excited to actually break down positive Eagles film. Nice change of pace for everybody after suffering through 12 weeks of slop.
