Chip Kelly Looking Like a Philadelphia Construction Foreman at Northwestern’s New Stadium Tour

Chip Kelly spoke on Tuesday as the Northwestern Wildcats held a media tour of their new football stadium:

All business. A hard hat, lunch pail type of guy. He looks like one of the blue collar union laborers who rebuilt I-95 in just three days:

Chip recently took his talents to Evanston, Illinois, and is ready to coordinate a Big 10 offense under head coach David Braun. We pointed out in December that Chip typically alternates between wildly successful jobs and total failure jobs. His recent resume looks like this:

• Raiders: fired in less than a season
• Ohio State: won a national title
• final three UCLA years: 25-13, three bowl berths
• first three UCLA years: 10-21, zero bowl berths
• last two NFL seasons (Niners and Eagles): 8-23, fired twice
• first two NFL seasons (Eagles): 20-12, two ten-win seasons
• Oregon: raging success, 46-7 over four years with three top-four finishes and a Natty loss

If the pattern continues, Chip is gonna have a barnstormer with the Wildcats this season. They may throw for 10,000 yards and run for 5,000. I’m having flashbacks to Dennis Dixon running the zone read and making Pac-10 defenders look like fools. They’ve got transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles from Michigan State in the fold. The only thing holding the Cats back could be road trips to Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State. Woof! Talk about a rough schedule.

The new Ryan Field opens this October, with Penn State in town. The Nitters will try to spoil the christening. Northwestern actually rebuilt the new stadium on top of the old stadium, just demolished the old one and built a brand new building at the same site. It was an $872 million project and features 35,000 seats.
