CJGJ Didn’t Even Make it to Week 4 with the Texans

The Kenyon Green and CJGJ trade has ended with both players being released before Week 4:
One of the Houston beats, a guy named Aaron Wilson, reports that CJGJ was released “after friction behind the scenes with him complaining about his role, wanting to blitz more, per league sources, and even communicating that he wanted to be traded.” Wilson further reports that CJGJ was critical of teammates in what amounted to a “locker room” issue, which SURE DOES MAKE YOU WONDER why the Birds traded CJ on two separate occasions. Surely it wasn’t to acquire Kenyon Green or provide cap flexibility, right? RIGHT?
Now, in terms of bringing CJGJ back, there seems to be some confusion on whether or not that’s even possible. On one hand, CJ did not play four games with the Texans, which means he’s not eligible for reacquisition via trade or waiver claim. However, he is a vested veteran, which means he becomes a free agent upon release, so we’ll see if we can get some clarity on that front. I think he’s eligible to sign with anyone because of his VV status, but we will effort confirmation.
Thing is, do the Birds need CJGJ anyway? Andrew Mukuba is playing well. And at some point the ship has to sail, right? Plus, they need a CB2 more than a safety anyway.
It feels like CJGJ is going to end up a Dallas Cowboy. Gut instinct. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe I’m right. Regardless, he will always be a Super Bowl champion who made big plays for the 2024 Birds, who went belt-to-ass on the Chiefs.
