Commies Suffer a Big Injury Loss After a 2025 Season Defined by Injury Losses

Commanders HC Dan Quinn confirmed this morning that LT Laremy Tunsil will undergo surgery on his torn tricep. There will be a better sense on Tunsil’s injury timeline after the surgery is completed, but he is expected to miss significant time, if not the season.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it: this is an absolutely brutal blow to the Commies. Tunsil is a five-time Pro Bowler and one of the NFL’s top left tackles, and was just signed to a two-year extension this offseason that includes $61.5 million guaranteed. That’s a lot of money for a guy who now may not play this season – a guy who’s also 32 years old, and will be working his way back from a major surgery whenever he does return to the field.

According to ESPN, “the recovery time for such an injury is typically at least four months and as long as six or seven.” That’s a pretty long time… and that’s if everything goes perfectly…

In the wake of this tough beat, I for one can’t help but wonder: without the star left tackle the Commies were depending on to protect Jayden Daniels’ blindside, will their young, possibly injury-prone quarterback even make it through this season? Or will he get obliterated so many times without even seeing what’s coming that his body will snap in half, then have to be driven off the field in two separate carts? Will their decent offseason acquisition of Stefon Diggs as WR2 behind Terry McLaurin ultimately be for naught, because Jayden can’t deliver the ball if he can’t stay upright?

Looking ahead, head coach Dan Quinn announced that Brandon Coleman will take over at left tackle. Coleman started 12 games there as a rookie in 2024 and filled in for Tunsil three times last season. Washington is reportedly comfortable enough with the plan that it doesn’t intend to bring in outside help to fill the position. If I were a Commies fan, I’m not sure that’d make me feel a whole lot better…

Prayers up for Commie Nation. Hope they’re holding their heads up high and staying optimistic. At least they won’t have to wait too much longer to see if Daniels can survive in the pocket without Tunsil – the Commanders come to Lincoln Financial Field in Week 1 (Sunday, September 13th) to play the Eagles. I bet that will be a valuable learning experience for all.
