Daniel Jones Wins Colts Job, Meaning Shane Steichen Will Inevitably be Fired and Rejoin the Eagles

Oh boy:
Imagine drafting Anthony Richardson #4 overall, then handing the keys to Daniel Jones two years later. Things not exactly going as planned in Indy! Richardson is only 23 years old, and maybe he puts it together at some point, but if you’re benched for Joe Flacco in 2024, and can’t beat out Danny Dimes in 2025, then the future isn’t looking too bright.
The entire thing with Richardson is that Shane Steichen was supposed to turn him into Jalen Hurts 2.0. He was supposed to run these Eagles concepts and mold him as a dual-threat guy out there. Instead, Richardson was injured in 2023 and Gardner Minshew finished the season. Then Richardson finished with a 47.7 completion percentage in 2024 while throwing eight touchdowns and 12 picks. He ran it 86 times for 499 yards and six touchdowns. They largely turned back to Jonathan Taylor to carry the load while Richardson struggled to complete half his passes in a game.
On one hand, the Colts may have given up on the guy. On the other hand, maybe he’s just not that good. And if it’s the latter, then Chris Ballard isn’t long for his world. Nor is Steichen. He’ll be back with the Eagles in 2026 as offensive coordinator or analyst or consultant or something along those lines. Maybe Jim Bob Cooter can return as well.
Do we really think that Indy team is going to the playoffs with Daniel Jones? They’ve got 8-9, 9-8 written all over them. And if Jones balls out, then we can laugh at the New York Giants.
