No surprises here based on what transpired this summer:

You’ll hear a lot of “who cares, he doesn’t play here anymore.” Sure, but the takeaway at this point is that the longer this Reddick stalemate goes on with the Jets, the better Howie Roseman looks. The Reddick trade wasn’t necessarily popular when it happened. They got a third round draft pick that can become a second rounder “if Reddick plays 67.5% of the snaps this season and has at least 10 sacks.” That was reported by the insiders and then confirmed by the Jets.

Reddick always wanted that new contract. He deserved more money based on his overall production, but he also turns 30 in September and most of the big edge rushing money is allocated to guys like in their mid-20s, like Brian Burns, Nick Bosa, and Joshua Hines-Allen. So the Birds front office decided to move on from Reddick and sign Bryce Huff instead, getting younger on the edge and sending the problem to New York.

That’s not to say that Reddick isn’t on the field Week 1 for the Jets with a reasonable contract, and maybe if the Eagles had decided to wait and work with Reddick they could have had him back on a fair deal. But the Birds don’t often mess with holdouts, or allow situations to get to that point at all, so in this case they decided to move on and put their time, effort, and money elsewhere. Once the Jets resolve this thing, and we see what kind of money Haason gets, then we can attach a more definitive grade to the trade.
