Eagles Receiver Marquise Goodwin Reportedly Opting Out of 2020 Season

More NFL opt outs are hitting the timeline right now. Patrick Chung is out, along with five other New England Patriots.

The first Eagle to skip the 2020 season will be Marquise Goodwin, according to Ian Rapoport:

The Eagles traded for Goodwin during the draft, acquiring him in a swap of 6th round picks with San Francisco. They basically gave up nothing to get him, so his opting out doesn’t hurt too much from a “we wasted these resources” standpoint.

Goodwin was more or less a reclamation project, a change of scenery/full health beneficiary, perhaps. He only played 16 games once in his seven-year NFL career, and when healthy showed big downfield playmaking ability. In 2017 he put up 962 yards on 56 receptions, scoring two touchdowns. He was targeted more than 100 times that year.

The positive here is that the Eagles stocked up on receivers this offseason, so while they miss out on seeing what Goodwin can provide, they have other guys who can replicate his skill set, at least on paper.
