Fans dont have enough info to have an strong opinions on coordinators

“We honestly dont know shit . All we can do is Trust the man thats gotten us to 3 superbowls (sic) with 3 sets of coordinators.”

It’s true that we don’t know very much about the inner workings of an offense. How involved was Nick Sirianni vs. Kevin Patullo in game plan and overall scheme? How many times did Jalen Hurts make the wrong check or audible out of a good call? Or – how many times did he make the right check and audible out of a bad call? What does the owner want to see from the offense and how much sway does the front office have? Can you even put a percentage on the limitation of injured guys like Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson? Probably not.

As always, pragmatism doesn’t make for good internet shitposting, or sports talk radio, but there’s certainly a baseline level of truth in what R/Head_Research_3118 is saying.

On the flipside, we can certainly trust what our eyes tell us. Throwing four verticals on 4th and 11 to end the Eagles’ season probably wasn’t a good idea. Calling the same 10 plays in every game while using no motion or misdirection or anything like that is probably not the best way to run an offense. And beyond that, there are coaches who come from identifiable setups who belong to a certain school of thought, for instance, Jonathan Gannon being a Mike Zimmer guy or Mike McDaniel branching off the Mike and Kyle Shanahan tree. You’re not hiring the former and getting a 3-4 defense, for instance, in the same way the latter isn’t running straight up the middle in the Power-I formation.

We can also separate play callers from non play-callers. Remember all of the arguing about Doug Pederson and Frank Reich/John DeFilippo, how the two assistants were the real brains behind the Super Bowl? That was never something you could fully evaluate because Doug called the plays. So we had to settle for being okay with never knowing the full answer as to who did “more” back then. But we enjoyed the first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history, and for most fans, that’s good enough.

One thing we can control, however, is our wagering. Utah Mammoth moneyline over the Flyers in a reverse jinx. We bet against the Flyers and they win. Grab a DraftKings promo code here.
