Eagles Reportedly Making an Effort to Keep Jonathan Gannon from Leaving

From Albert Breer at Sports Illustrated:
In replacing (Shane) Steichen, Nick Sirianni should have some answers. He could try and get (Brian) Johnson to turn down other opportunities and stay as coordinator, or turn to (Kevin) Patullo, and the fact that Sirianni himself is an old offensive coordinator helps backstop the whole thing. Having to replace Gannon would be more difficult, with the timing of his candidacy in Arizona an issue. Two guys who I think would’ve been high on the Eagles’ DC list, Vic Fangio and Jerod Mayo, have already agreed to deals elsewhere.
I have heard, for what it’s worth, that the Eagles have made an effort to keep Gannon in the fold, with the Arizona interest having been rumored for a while.
Oh boy. People are going to hate this. If Jonathan Gannon actually comes back he’s going to have to go into hiding for a minimum two weeks. Just Uber Eats and DoorDash until this Super Bowl stuff blows over.
But here’s the thing –
I don’t know what people wanted Gannon to do in the Super Bowl. Once the NFL gave him the script the Monday before, how was he supposed to win? You don’t think he wanted to come out of two high safety and stop getting beat underneath? It’s not that he sucks against elite QBs it’s just the role the NFL wants him to play. It’s all about character development. You think he’d get beat on the same fake jet sweep twice in three minutes if the script didn’t tell him to? Absolutely not. His hands were tied. It was 38-35 all the way. Just gotta hope the script writers are in the Eagles’ favor in Super Bowl 58.
QGannon shirts are 20% in my store. Think of it like buying GameStop before the short squeeze.
