Eagles Training Camp: The Final Day

Another 10-10-10 practice for the Eagles to wrap up training camp before they head to Gillette Stadium for Thursday’s preseason game against the Patriots.
And by “wrap-up” training camp, I mean that media will only be able to see limited portions of practice from here on out. The team basically just keeps doing what they’ve been doing. It used to be more symbolic when they’d pack up at Lehigh and return to Philly.
Let’s start with head ball coach Doug Pederson, who was asked today about Ian Rapoport’s report that Alshon Jeffery, who is returning from offseason shoulder surgery, could begin the season on the physically unable to perform list.
Doug’s response:
“You know what, we didn’t – I’m not gonna comment on it because obviously we’re just monitoring his progress. It’s day-to-day, we’re happy where he’s at and we’ll continue to do that. I’m not sure where that came from.”
More from Pederson:
- Nelson Agholor has a “lower body” injury, needs rest, timetable is to get him ready for week one
- Corey Clement also needs rest from a “lower body,” same as Agholor
- Nick Foles will play Thursday night, not sure how long yet
- will sit down after Thursday with medical team to talk about Carson Wentz and where he’s at physically
- feels it’s important to get starting quarterback at least some time in preseason games, other teams obviously doing things differently
- would want at least a full week of preparation with Wentz before determining that he’s ready for week one, but didn’t want to get into hypotheticals
- expects Brandon Graham to continue rehab, wouldn’t make a decision on week one
Nick Foles and Carson Wentz also spoke today:
Foles:
- not sure how much work he’s going to get on Thursday night, that’s up to the coaches
- “everyone is making a big deal” out of fact that Tom Brady didn’t congratulate him on the Super Bowl win, thinks it’s not that much of an issue (still hasn’t spoken to him since the game)
- referred to Shelton Gibson as “Gibby”
- takes time to adjust, RE: Mike Wallace, continuing to talk and have conversations, feels like he’s settling in
- staff does a great job of fitting the offense to the personnel, and not the other way around
Carson Wentz:
- didn’t get as much practice as I would have liked to in camp, but I feel good, feel ready to go
- hopes to progress into 11v11 next week, constant communication with coaches and doctors “as we progress”
- it’s “gonna be close” as far as readiness for week one, comes down to doctors, coaches
- last hurdle is being cleared for contact, “it’s getting close, we’re gonna be close”
- no issues not having first team wide receivers available in camp, developed a good chemistry with Agholor and Jeffery last season

Meantime, here are some notes from the gathered media at NovaCare:
- Christian Hackenberg got some 11v11 reps, threw a couple of interceptions right off the bat (scripted practice, so this is probably expected, it’s just the offense giving the defense specific looks)
- Avonte Maddox got some more reps with the first team defense
- Josh Adams did not practice, but it’s not due to his spring foot injury
- RE: Jeffery –
Alshon Jeffery is on a side field working with a trainer, running routes and catching. First time I’ve seen him do that during training camp #Eagles

- Jalen Mills apparently went inside early
- Donnel Pumphrey, Markus Wheaton, Mack Hollins, Asantay Brown, and Chandon Sullivan also missed practice
That’s about it. We’re getting closer to real football, just a little more than three weeks until the regular season opener.
