If the 49ers Lose this Weekend, Blame it on Low-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields Causing Players’ Tendons and Ligaments to Fall Apart

This is so outrageous that it has to be shared. There’s a conspiracy theory going around that the 49ers are the most-injured NFL team because an electrical facility next to their stadium and practice facility is weakening the collagen in their bodies:

This Peter Cowan guy wrote an entire Twitter thread on the topic. He notes that the Niners are top-five in adjusted games lost for 10 of the 11 seasons since moving to Levi’s Stadium in 2014. They’ve had more Achilles and patellar ruptures, more hamstring and calf tears, basically just outpacing every other team in a number of categories. Then he gets into stuff like “milligauss” readings and talks about outdated safety guidelines that don’t match up with more-recent peer-reviewed studies. It’s super-interesting.

But make no mistake, electromagnetic fields causing your ligaments to fall apart is no excuse. It’s “next-man up” at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, where the only electricity will be coming from 70,000 mongrels in the crowd. When the Birds get the job done, we better not hear Niners fans say “yeah well we were depleted because of the electrical substation next to the stadium.”
