Who is this woman? That’s 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. She’s a Pakistani activist for women’s education with an incredible backstory.
The short version of a very long and compelling tale is that the Pakistani Taliban came into her home region and banned girls’ education, which she spoke out against, beginning when she was just 11 years old. In 2012, she was the target of a Taliban assassination attempt, survived a gunshot to the head, recovered in England, and went on to become a global voice for education and women’s rights. When she won the Nobel Prize, she was just 17 years old and the youngest winner ever. Now she travels the world in her continuing activism.
She was in Philadelphia as part of her book tour, hosted by Kylie at The Fillmore.
If I had to guess, this is probably the most high-profile Eagles chant of all time. Probably the most famous person in the world to participate in a Birds chant. I could be wrong, but nothing else comes to mind. Has any other Nobel Prize winner or globally-recognized activist given us an E-A-G-L-E-S? Not that I can recall.
