Jalen Hurts Didn’t Wear his Super Bowl Ring Because He’s Moved On

QB1 on day one of training camp:
As we all expected. He wasn’t pictured wearing the ring at the recent Eagles ceremony, which was delayed and supposed to happen earlier in the summer. He likely kept the ring in the box and it’s now sitting in his closet or inside one of the many storage units in the greater Philadelphia area.
Nobody should be surprised by this. It’s very on-brand for Hurts, who is keeping the main thing the main thing (winning). On one hand, you have a lot of respect for an athlete as laser-focused as Jalen is. He’s not gonna become distracted or knocked off course in the pursuit of greatness. On the other hand, you hope the guy is at least enjoying himself. You only live once, so you should celebrate your achievements. Maybe he celebrated in his own way, probably smoking a cigar while listening to Anita Baker. Regardless, the guy is a Super Bowl champion, and that doesn’t change whether he wears the ring or not. You just don’t want to see a thing where the ambition becomes a curse, and you’re going through life thinking that nothing is ever good enough, but that’s a discussion for the psychotherapists and philosophers among the Eagles’ fan base.
Pagan: Some Eagles fans are going to love this and some are going to hate it. Some love the Michael Jordan approach to things. A guy who is a complete psychopath driven by winning and greatness works well in this city. They see six rings in Jalen’s future and a guy hellbent on getting them. It’s everything fans complained Donovan McNabb wasn’t. The other side of the coin is going to hate this. They’ll think it’s all marketing and morphed into a fabricated story for Hurts’ brand. It’s okay to celebrate accomplishments and sometimes let your guard down. Sometimes it’s nice to know there’s a person under that shell built around him after years of rat poison and being told he wasn’t good enough. Now you can’t go a press conference or see him walking past the social team without something Jordan Brand on him. The hoop earring and Kangol hat are one thing. If Jalen shaves his head before the season you’ll know he’s in way too deep.
