Jalen Hurts Talks About Carson Wentz and Other Stuff on Adam Schefter’s Podcast

Let’s get it back to the Eagles. Just in case the Nielsen ratings start to dip and we find ourselves lagging behind the other radio station. Let’s take some phone calls and get the hosts talking football again.
Jalen Hurts went on Adam Schefter’s podcast, and while he didn’t have anything Earth-shattering to say, did drop a few worthwhile nuggets. It’s the Eagles’ quarterback, so, I guess everything is worthwhile, right?
The pod ran about 15 minutes, and he said the following:
- he’s spending down time with family and friends
- working with Bobby Stroupe, the same guy who trained Patrick Mahomes
- he’s also working with Quincy Avery, who has a history with Deshaun Watson
- Philadelphia is “a bit different” than Texas, specifically the weather
- he this year he played in the snow for the first time ever (the Green Bay game)
- he described his first year with the Eagles as a “true learning experience” and there was good and bad that he can improve from
- he said his “mentality doesn’t change” when asked about going into the season as the presumed starter
- on teammates working with him in the offseason, he says that’s in the plans
- he thinks Jaylen Waddle is “different,” a guy where there’s nothing he can’t do
- DeVonta Smith is a “smooth criminal” and he isn’t worried about his size
The most intriguing part of an otherwise bland interview was a series of questions about Carson Wentz, with Hurts saying this about the trade:
Hurts: I think it was just an opportunity for me. I think it shows the trust in what they think I can be as a player, so I want to prove them right.
Schefter: What did you learn from Carson, working with him in your first season in the NFL?
Hurts: Carson has a lot of experience, his five years of experience, I’ve always said, is a lot more to my one, or my four games rather. But just seeing how he handled stuff on the field. Being around all the quarterbacks in that room, and coaches as well, just seeing their perspective of the game and their point of view of the game. Seeing what they like to do, what they don’t like to do, and just learning from it. I try to be a sponge and soak in as much as I can. And every player is different. Just being around it, being around professionals doing their job and learning from him.
Schefter: You got to be around him every day, so what do you expect him to do this season in Indianapolis?
Hurts: I extend him my blessings. I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope he takes off. I hope he has a great remainder of his career.
Schefter: Did you have any interaction in communication with him after the trade, Jalen?
Hurts: No, sir.
I’d imagine some jabroni is gonna take that quote and say “Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts hated each other’s guts,” or something along those lines. Maybe if Hurts plays against Wentz in the Super Bowl and they gotta shake hands after the game, we’ll see if that happens, or if one of them pulls a Tom Brady/Nick Foles snub.
